When Julius Sandhu drives into his Cranbourne stables at 3:15am each day, he can predict how his next 10 minutes will unfold.
An alert Lofty Strike, Saturday’s favourite for the Oakleigh Plate, will have his head over the box calling out for his trainer once the stable lights go on.
“The first thing I do is grab a handful of his breakfast from the feed bin and walk into his box,” Sandhu revealed.
“For a 520-kilogram colt, he stands there like a little puppy and eats it from my hand and will not touch the rest of his breakfast until I feed him.
“That’s his way of bonding and letting me know he’s ok or not.
