We are excited to share that Lofty Group has been named as an inaugural slot holder in the Southside Slot Series, Australia’s first-ever thoroughbred slot racing series. This innovative new racing format is set to be a major addition to the racing calendar, and we are proud to be involved alongside some of the most prominent names in the industry.
With $2 million in prize money on offer, the series features two high-stakes races:
- The Meteorite (1200m) – Ladbrokes Cranbourne Cup Day – 23 November 2024
- The Supernova (1400m) – Sportsbet Pakenham Cup Day – 21 December 2024
Both races are open to three-year-olds and older and will be conducted under set weights and penalties conditions, ensuring strong competition across both events.

A Prestigious Group of Slot Holders
Each slot in the Southside Slot Series is held for three years, with just 14 slots available. The slot holders represent a diverse mix of leading trainers, owners, syndicates, and corporate groups across Australia and New Zealand, all contributing to what promises to be a standout racing series.
Slot holders have the flexibility to enter their own runner or lease their slot, ensuring a strategic element to participation. We’re looking forward to exploring the best options for our slot and being part of what promises to be an exciting new racing format.
A New Era for Racing
Southside Racing has designed the Southside Slot Series to add a fresh dimension to Australian racing, showcasing Cranbourne and Pakenham as premier racing venues. With continued investment from Racing Victoria and key stakeholders, the series is set to establish itself as a key event on the calendar. Neil Bainbridge, Chief Executive Officer of Southside Racing, highlighted the significance of this milestone:
“The Southside Slot Series is unlike anything we’ve seen before in Australian racing, and the calibre of slot holders reflects the industry’s enthusiasm for this groundbreaking format. We can’t wait to see the best contenders compete on the track and make history.”
Alongside the prize money, an additional bonus will be awarded to the slot holder who accrues the most points across both races, further raising the stakes. Southside Racing has also committed $20,000 in donations to local charities and community groups throughout the series, reinforcing the positive impact of the event beyond the racetrack.
Looking Ahead
We’re excited to be part of this new series and eager to see how it unfolds. As we approach the first race, we’ll be carefully considering our options for The Meteorite and The Supernova and will share more details in the coming weeks.
Stay tuned for updates as we prepare for this exciting new chapter in Australian racing!
