SAM
Sam Freedman is Anthony’s youngest son, growing up immersed in the racing world. After completing his formal education, he travelled to England to play cricket and gained invaluable experience working with Roger Varian, handling elite gallopers like Postponed and Belardo. Returning to Australia in 2017, Sam brought fresh ideas and enthusiasm to Freedman Racing. He officially joined his father in a training partnership at the start of the 2020-21 season and celebrated his first winner with Criminal at Sale in August 2020. ACR Racing
Alex and Chuck Rae have been passionate about racehorse training from a young age, growing up in a thoroughbred racing and breeding family. Immersed in the industry from the beginning, they developed an early appreciation for the sport that laid the foundation for their promising careers as trainers.
Alex honed his skills under the guidance of Robert Smerdon at Caulfield Racecourse, working with elite Group 1 winners such as Mosheen, Shamal Wind, and Politeness. During this time, he and Chuck balanced their racing ambitions with academic pursuits at St Kevin’s College, Toorak. At just 20 years old, Alex took out his trainer’s license, demonstrating both ambition and determination.
The brothers are dedicated to meticulous attention to detail, striving to unlock each horse’s full potential and deliver exceptional returns for their clients. With their business expanding rapidly, Alex and Chuck have established a robust operational framework and built a top-tier support network. Sandhu Racing
While the name Julius Sandhu is relatively new to the Victorian racing scene, his association with thoroughbreds began 30 years ago in Bangalore, India.
He now boasts a deep knowledge of thoroughbred and international racing experience matched by relatively few in the local industry. A (Aris).B. David was the first trainer in India to reach 100 Group 1 winners and surpassed 150 Group 1 winners by the end of his career. He won every major race on the Indian racing calendar, many of them multiple times.
“My time with Aris was instrumental in developing my passion for horses in many ways. He was the consummate horseman and taught me that welfare of the animal is paramount for optimum performance. Happy, healthy, fit horses win races. His record spoke for itself, he was a true racing legend”. From India, with his passion for horses burning, Julius looked abroad to expand his horizons and where better to set his sights than Godolphin in Dubai, where he worked for the famous American trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. Kairan ran stables in both Dubai and New York and boasts a phenomenal record. He has won many major races, including the Dubai World Cup and many famous races in the United States. He is a multiple award winner across two continents including leading Dubai trainer three times.
“Working for Kairan McLaughin was an amazing experience. His knowledge was second to none, and his record covering several continents was extraordinary. From Dubai World Cups to Group 1s in the U.S, I was a sponge for information whenever I was with him”.
Julius then turned towards Australia, where, after a stint in the corporate world, he returned to his true passion 2 years ago.
Having made enquiries with Cranbourne Turf Club, he was provided with Mick Kent’s details.
This proved a critical moment in his return to the racing industry. Julius worked for Mick for 15 months prior to gaining his license and the generous support and guidance provided by Mick is something Julius relied on heavily.
Owners searching for an inclusive, intimate experience would do well to join the Sandhu racing stable. Julius runs a smaller boutique stable, allowing focus on every detail and every owner.
